Remember that moment? Your first Straight Egyptian mare? Excitement abounded when Diyaa stepped off the trailer in Texas that cold December day. Purchased in 1983 from Donna Anderson upon the advice of Janice Bush - then with Somerset Farms - the home of *Sultann. Kehilan had been breeding Egyptian bred horses but now began a new era. Diyaa was in foal to Somerset's famous and exotic Ruminaja Bahjat and very soon foaled a darling filly - KA Sultan Sherifa. It must have been providence that someday Diyaa's sire would come to retire and lay at rest at Kehilan as well. For her second foal we chose Nabiel+/ and linebreeding the *Sultann. Something many breeders had warned against. But we felt Nabiel+/ had the type Diyaa so needed and so KA Sultan Nabiyaa was born. Nabiyaa became a Champion Mare and also was shown by Kehilan at our second ever Egyptian Event to a Top Ten Yearling Futurity Filly out of 61 entries! She also competed at Scottsdale shown by her owners and was 12th out of 68 fillies! Nabiyaa went on to produce KA Sultann Kasmira by our Nabiel son RA Jahim. Kasmira was also an Event Top Ten Yearling Filly and each generation became typier and more beautiful! And so the start of a breeding program was born. But bills must be paid especially in new farms and the choice was between keeping Diyaa or keeping Diyaa. And so Diyaa went to a new home. Sadly she died after only one more foal for her new owners. But we will always remember that cold December day and how grand she looked stepping into her new stall! Thank you Diyaa - smiles be upon you!

Antara came to Kehilan to retire when her owner Julie Nowak reluctantly had to move and disperse some of her herd. Antara was in foal at the time and delivered a lovely chestnut filly by Sultanns Legacy a stallion Julie had purchased from Kehilan earlier. This filly Antaras Gift is a tall, leggy blonde girl with a wonderful disposition. Antara is permanent retirement at "Menopause Manor" at Kehilan along with her sister another *Sultann daughter Etnasha where they serve as the farm "babysitters" when needed!

During the Bentwood Farms Dispersal Janice Bush was approached as the current owner of *Sultann to kindly take a *Sultann daughter that could not be caught or handled in the Bentwood Pastures. She agreed and Etnasha headed for California where she was bred to Ruminaja Bahjat. That foal -Gotham became a halter and Western Pleasure champion. Eventually, of course, Janice came to TX as did her horses and so "ET" found a home with her sire. Kehilan leased her for a foal to their exotic *Ansata Ibn Halima/*Ibn Moniet El Nefous stallion - Nasuli. While a nice gelding it was not her best cross. Janice chose to linebreed again - as Kehilan had done with Diyaa years ago to Nabiel+/. The resulting foals sired by our Nabiel son RA Jahim have all been superior and wonderful athletes as well - smooth bodied and big eyed! Etnasha now enjoys a retirement in "Menopause Manor" with her sister Antara. And by the way...... Etnasha has never been a problem to catch or handle here at Kehilan. In fact, she has been a great grandmother to foals and is one of the best mothers we have ever seen and sweet, kind mare!

Chestnut Straight Egyptian Mare

After foaling a few foals at our farm we decided to purchase *Thawra and breed her to our Prince son Raquin RA. *Thawra was a tall, elegant mare with a superb neck and great trot that did not have a pretty head. But Rocky had been pretty consistent in producing type and *Thawra had proven that she could produce type when bred correctly. One warm summer day she foaled without warning quite early - at 307 days gestation! The little bay filly was strong and bright eyed but she had very weak legs and could not stand. When we were finally able to get her to stand a few days later it became apparent her front legs were too contracted for her to balance. So she wore splints. *Thawra was very concerned about the whole ordeal but patiently let everyone attend to the cute filly as long as she could keep her muzzle on her. About a week later the Texas heat came in and with temperatures near 110 degrees the filly was suffering heat exhaustion. Her respiratory system simply could not handle that. So, we scooped her up and carried her into the office where we pulled out the sofa into a bed and she lived on that sofa bed under the A/C. *Thawra clattered along behind us into the barn but stopped at the doorway peering in. Luckily, the office had a window into another stall...... so we put Mom in there and opened the window. So, for until the temps cooled a little that is where they stayed. With *Thawra's head through the window into the office most of the time. This darling little bay filly grew into a very impressive and big mare and became one of our foundation mares - her name is KA Sultan Raqwa. She is now owned by Carol Maginn of Austin, TX. Raqwa had her first daughter Rahimah who is chestnut. And while much prettier in the face than her elegant old grandma - she still has quite a few traits we see from *Thawra. And Rahimah has in turn also produced extremely well for us. *Thawra retired at Kehilan until she passed away due to kidney/heart failure at a ripe old age. She was a lovely mare despite the plain face. Her heart was not plain - rather it was as beautiful as they come!
