In 1985, upon visiting Nabiel+/ for the first time, we toured Rinconada Arabians and saw many of their young Nabiel+/ children. One dark chestnut yearling colt with a beautiful eye captured our attention in particular. This was RA Jahim. And he was out of one of Rinconada's loveliest mares, the desert looking *Tuhotmos daughter - *Masarra. As life is so often funny, we had tried to purchase *Masarra just a couple of years before at Rosie Meng's farm in Santa Ynez, CA. Rosie had sadly died of cancer and the horses were tied up and we had moved on. Jahim was beyond our price range at the time and further we did not really want a stallion. However, we tried to put together the funding and a partnership to purchase him. Word came that Jahim had been sold just a few weeks later and we were quite disappointed. A month or so later Jahim contracted severe pneumonia and nearly died. It destroyed some of the cartilage in his back and caused a weak spine that became worse as he grew. In 1988, after having joined The Nabiel Legacy Group, Becky was working the Nabiel+/ booth at Nationals in Kentucky when Burt Melton approached her with an idea. It seems as if Jahim's owner was unhappy with the training situation he was in and wanted a place to stand the stallion. Knowing our previous interest in the horse, Burt felt that perhaps we would want to stretch our wings and stand Jahim at stud. We happily agreed and Jahim arrived at Kehilan in December of 1988. We tried to train and show him but it became apparent that he was suffering from a chronic leg injury and that it was impossible to condition him to the point his back became level. Many x-rays later revealed a fractured knee, an old injury that had not been diagnosed prior to arriving at Kehilan. The surgery was successful and Jahim became sound again. But between his back and the now scarred knee it was decided to not show in halter classes. So we put him under saddle and a he became a nice Western horse. The owner wished to have him begin siring foals and elected not to show him under saddle.

Through the years Jahim became an eerily consistent sire. His foals all looked exactly alike. Especially if the foal was chestnut and to a lesser extent even the bays. And with 28 of 40 offspring colored that is most of his foals. Jahim has a unique look. He is not what you would term exotic. But he is definitely Arabian. Muscular like his sire, but with more dryness from his dam. He has a gorgeous long neck and the most gorgeous large, dark eye. We have always told prospective breeders that if he is not your style of horse, do not breed to him. As we have seen many, many Arabian stallions throughout the years including some of the most famous. And we can honestly say that this has been one of the most prepotent sires we have witnessed. He always passes on his large, dark eye, long neck, good bone, good legs and feet, big jowl, almost no white markings and a certain look. On one of the older Jahim videos there are a dozen different chestnut offspring dancing across the screen, and we were accused of running footage of one or two multiple times! Kehilan eventually went into partnership with his owner Mr. Mel Sommers of Scottsdale, Arizona. And to this day, we own him jointly. Not many of his children have been shown. Often, they have an extraordinarily sweet personality. They sometimes lack the fire to excel in the current halter arena. So we bred to him on a limited basis. In hindsight, we should have used Jahim more as a sire. We have now found that his daughters are proving to be spectacular producers. Rahimah KA who is a typical chestnut Jahim look a like, holds one of the top spots in our mare band here at Kehilan. His daughter, KA Sultan Kasmira is double Nabiel+/ and triple *Sultann and has been a multiple winner at the Egyptian Event plus her first foal (by Makhnificent KA) recently won a Championship and Top Ten at the 2005 Event. Kasmira is a very beautiful and typey Arabian mare now owned by Timothy Anderson of Milbank, SD. True to the ironies of life, we have tried the last couple of years to breed more mares to Jahim only to find out that he is basically sterile. At 21 years of age, "JJ" holds a dear spot in our hearts. Not yet ready for complete retirement, he works daily as our benevolent tease stallion.
